Scara Robots

Epson SCARA Robots (Selective Compliance Assembly Robot Arm) were design to be similar to a human's arm. At the end of the second arm, there is a Z-axis carriage, which can rotate independently of its perpendicular movement (U-axis).

Scara robots are particularly suitable for pick-and-place and/or assembly type applications, thanks to their resemblance to a human arm. A big advantage compared to six-axis robots is that they only have to move 1 axis to lift a part up.

All wiring reqired for the robot's and the payload's operation are done internally, inside the robot's housing. This will reduce problems and limits because of external cabling.

G-series

The G-series are Epson's newest generation of Scara robots that feature impressive diversity, speed and precision. Reach ranges start from 250 mm up to 1000 mm. Payloads from 3 - 20 kgs. They are an excellent choice, even for comples applications. There are over 200 different configurations that you can choose from to ensure that you get the right robot for your specific application:
  • reaches: 250-1000 mm
  • payloads: 3-20 kgs
  • mounting options: base, wall, ceiling
  • environment: clean room, ESD
  • protection: standard, IP54, IP64

These robots are ideal for the medical, automotive, electronics, consumer, food, lab automation, PC peripheral, semiconductor, plastics, appliance and aerospace industries and applications.

You can order the G Series robots with one of the following controllers: RC180 or RC620.

RC180: standard controller

The G Series robots are delivered with the RC180 controller by default. It is EPSON's compact robot controller, suitable for most robotic applications. Programming is done on an external PC (desktop or laptop), which is then connected to the robot controller via USB or Ethernet. The RC180 is expandable by various extension boards. You can add additional inputs/outputs, or communication interfaces to it.

RC620: professional controller

The RC620 is used for more complex applications, when a simple robot controller is not enough. The RC620 comes with an industrial PC built-in. Programming is done directly on the controller with a external display, keyboard and mouse attached. The RC620 is capable of controlling more than 1 robot at a time, as it can control up to 20 axis. It can be used as a Fieldbus master and also has the ability to do conveyor tracking.

Multitasking

The RC180 / RC620 controllers are not just for operating the robots. They can be used to control other industial tools. The controllers accept inputs and can control outputs, so they can work like a PLC. Various tasks can be programmed, even independently from the robot motion.

Epson's smart camera system is easy to install and simple to operate. Thanks to the seamless Vision Editor integration, the camera plugs right into the robot's programming environment. With the help of the powerful geometry tools the camera programming is intuitive. There are two versions of the camera: stationary and mobile.
